About Melanie Liang
Senior Clinical Psychologist
MPsych. (Clinical Psychology), BSc. (Hons) in Psychology
Registered Clinical Psychologist (SRP, Singapore)
Melanie graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Psychology) Degree and a Master in Clinical Psychology. She is registered with the Singapore Register of Psychologists (SRP).
Melanie has experience working with young and older adults experiencing difficulties related to depression, anxiety, trauma, adjustment to major life changes and relational issues. She believes that individuals have the innate capacity to recover and grow, and therapy seeks to co-create safe and optimal conditions for recovery to occur. In line with this belief, Melanie has a keen interest in working with individuals to understand their experiences and how they occur within the context of their relationships and their environment. Her therapeutic approach centres on having a curious and non-judgemental stance to explore individuals’ strengths, ways to navigate challenges and to build more fulfilling lives.
As an adventure enthusiast, Melanie enjoys (almost) all things outdoors. She has also recently taken up a role as a lecturer at Nanyang Technological University, motivated by her interests to share her knowledge and experience working within the mental health community in Singapore.
Therapeutic Orientation
Melanie embraces a client-centred approach and applies a range of modalities, such as schema, cognitive-behavioural, mindfulness, acceptance and commitment, and compassion-focused therapies, depending on the individual’s needs. Helping clients understand their strengths and needs through an attachment and systemic lens is central to her approach, as well as working towards a more meaningful and values-driven life, rather than focusing on diagnoses and deficits.

Experience
Melanie has diverse experiences working in the community sector, providing therapeutic support for individuals with chronic life stressors, relational issues and familial difficulties. She has conducted custody and care-and-control evaluations for the Family Justice Courts of Singapore, and worked with parents and children caught in high-conflict dynamics. She has also provided skills-training group programmes for adults coping with mood and anxiety symptoms.
Prior to her career in the community sector, Melanie worked with perinatal women in the hospital setting, providing acute mental health assessments, counselling and crisis support, and clinical liaison with community partners. This included supporting women experiencing postnatal blues, grief due to fetal loss and pre-existing mental health conditions during pregnancy.
Having observed the dynamic interplay between one’s psychological well-being and their social environments, Melanie’s experiences have influenced her adoption of an attachment-based and systemic approach to care.
"Curiosity illuminates the path to understanding, while compassion provides the gentle touch that soothes. Intertwined, they create the canvas for self-discovery and growth."
